Understanding the Ruling on Blood from Wounds and Squeezed Pimples in Islamic Law

Problem Description:
It is said that the urge to pop a pimple is similar to the urge to scratch an itch. Usually, after a pimple is popped, blood comes out of it.

Question:
What is the ruling regarding blood from a wound or blood that comes out of a pimple that is intentionally squeezed?

Answer:
If the blood belongs to someone else and it is a small amount, it is excused (ma‘fū). However, if it is a large amount, it is not excused.
As for one’s own blood, it depends:

  • If the blood comes out without one’s own action (flows on its own) and does not flow beyond the wounded area, then it is impure (najis) but excused.

  • If the blood comes out as a result of one’s own action, or if it flows beyond the wounded area, then it is not excused.
